Dr Christopher Chesney, MB.BS  F.R.A.C.G.P  F.R.A.N.Z.C.O
Ophthalmologist & Founder

Dr Christopher Chesney graduated from Monash University. After earning his fellowship in General Practice, he completed specialist training in Medical and Surgical Ophthalmology at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital, gaining his Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmology (FRANZCO).

Dr Chesney is a member of the Australasian Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, the Asia Pacific Cataract and Refractive Society, and the American Academy of Ophthalmology.

​

In 2003, Dr Chesney founded Mentone Eye Specialists with a clear mission: to provide excellence in medical and surgical eye care to the local community. He has over two decades of experience caring for patients with cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetic eye disease.

Dr Robin Abell, MBBS, MMedSci, FRANZCO, FWCRS
Ophthalmologist — Cornea, Cataract & Refractive Surgery

Dr Robin Abell is a specialist ophthalmologist with subspecialty expertise in cornea, advanced cataract surgery, and refractive surgery. He consults at Mentone Eye Specialists as part of a practice spanning Melbourne and Tasmania, where he serves as the sole corneal specialist surgeon in the state.

Dr Abell graduated with First Class Honours from the University of Tasmania and completed a Masters of Medicine in Ophthalmic Sciences at the University of Sydney. He subsequently undertook a two-year Cataract Surgery Research Fellowship at the Launceston Eye Institute, and subspecialty fellowship training in Cornea and Refractive Surgery at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital.

He has published over 50 research papers and book chapters, with more than 1,500 citations of his work internationally. He is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Tasmania and a clinical teacher of ophthalmology trainees at both the Royal Hobart Hospital and the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital.​​

  • Cataract surgery — including femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery and premium IOL options (multifocal, EDOF, monovision)

  • Refractive laser surgery — LASIK, PRK, SMILE/SILK/LaLex, and topography-guided LASIK

  • ICL (Implantable Collamer Lens) surgery for high myopia and astigmatism

  • Corneal transplantation — DMEK for Fuchs' Dystrophy, DALK for Keratoconus

  • BOOST oxygen-assisted corneal collagen cross-linking for Keratoconus
